James Brown

James (he, him) is a partner practising in the areas of securities law and general corporate law, with an emphasis on corporate finance, mergers and acquisitions (public and private) and securities compliance matters. James joined the firm in 2002 after summering at a boutique intellectual property law firm and articling at Oslers.

James is a member of the firm’s M&A Practice Group, past chair and current member of the Student Committee and member of the Opinions Committee. He was also previously seconded to the Corporate Finance Branch of the TSX Venture Exchange.

While technically proficient and capable of pointing out all the roadblocks to the completion of a potential transaction, James prefers to leverage his analytical skills to help clients assess and manage risk with a view to finding practical legal and business solutions.

While at Western Law, James was awarded a number of academic prizes, including prizes for highest standing in Company Law, Commercial and Company Law combined, Alternative Dispute Resolution, Civil Procedure and Conflicts of Laws.

Outside the office, James has completed several marathons, including the Boston Marathon, and can be found at hockey arenas and gyms across Ontario cheering on his children’s athletic pursuits. James is also a devoted and long-suffering fan of the Toronto Maple Leafs.
