James Brown

James (he, him) is a Partner and a member of the firm’s Management Committee. He practises in the areas of securities law and general corporate law, with an emphasis on corporate finance, mergers and acquisitions (public and private) and securities compliance matters.

James is a member of the firm’s M&A Practice Group and the Opinions Committee, and a past chair and current member of the Student Committee. He was also previously seconded to the Corporate Finance Branch of the TSX Venture Exchange.

While technically proficient and skilled at identifying potential roadblocks to the completion of a transaction, James focuses on leveraging his analytical strengths to help clients assess and manage risks, with a view to delivering practical legal and business solutions.

While at Western Law, James was awarded a number of academic prizes, including prizes for highest standing in Company Law, Commercial and Company Law combined, Alternative Dispute Resolution, Civil Procedure and Conflicts of Laws.

Outside the office, James has completed several marathons, including the Boston Marathon, and can be found at hockey arenas and gyms across Ontario cheering on his children’s athletic pursuits. James is also a devoted and long-suffering fan of the Toronto Maple Leafs.
