Melissa Smith
Overview
Melissa Smith is a corporate lawyer whose practice focuses on mergers and acquisitions, general corporate governance and commercial matters, corporate finance and emerging company work. She advises investors, founders and companies throughout all stages of the business lifecycle—from early stage formation and financing to strategic acquisitions and exit transactions. Melissa’s transactional practice includes both buy side and sell side mandates, with particular emphasis on lower middle market, founder led M&A.
In addition to her transactional work, Melissa advises clients on Canadian private sector privacy law compliance and holds an Osgoode Hall certification in technology agreements and related issues. This background enables her to provide informed, practical guidance to technology, software and AI focused businesses, including those operating in data sensitive or rapidly evolving regulatory environments.
