Peter Volk
Overview
Peter (he, him) is a Partner practicing primarily in the areas of securities, corporate finance, mergers and acquisitions and corporate governance. He brings exceptional experience in the mining, oil and gas and natural resource industries, and in his practice at the firm, has worked for public and private issuers, as well as investment banks.
Prior to joining the firm, Peter served as general counsel to Frontera Energy Corporation (formerly Pacific Exploration & Production/Pacific Rubiales Energy), Gran Colombia Gold Corp. and Bolivar Gold Corp., among others. He has practiced as a corporate and securities lawyer since 1988 in Toronto and, for two years, in Tokyo.
For over 22 years, Peter worked as chief legal counsel to a group that founded and developed over a dozen public companies, primarily in the resources sector. In this role, he gained extensive experience in all forms of financing and M&A activity, particularly reverse takeovers, and was involved in transactions with an aggregate value exceeding $15 billion. He also developed broad experience in corporate governance, sustainability and internal management matters, including contested proxy battles and ownership transitions, and he worked closely as Secretary and strategic advisor to the boards and management. Peter successfully led Frontera through the largest CCAA filing of 2016 and has worked with numerous issuers to help them restructure their balance sheets and businesses.
Peter is actively involved in the firm, serving as the Chair of the Management Committee. He is an instructor with the Board Diversity Network, a networking and board-readiness educational program for diverse executives that Wildeboer Dellelce co-founded in 2023 as part of our firmwide diversity initiatives. He is also a member of Alliott Global Alliance, an international alliance of independent professional services firms, including accounting firms, law firms and other specialist services providers.
Peter received his law degree from Osgoode Hall Law School and an MBA from York University. He is also very proud of his undergraduate degree in political science from Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska.
Peter is a graduate of the Institute of Corporate Directors at the Rotman School of Business (University of Toronto) and is a former member of the Listings Advisory Committee of the TSX. He is active in the community, having helped raise funds for Right To Play, a charity dedicated to enhancing individual self-worth through the power of play, as well as the Scarborough Hospital Network Foundation, which supports Toronto’s largest community base and largest concentration of New Canadians.
