Overview

Richard practises exclusively in the area of taxation with primary emphasis on the taxation of corporate reorganizations, mergers and acquisitions, and corporate finance, both for public and private corporations. In addition, Richard is a regular advisor to individuals and private enterprises with respect to estate planning matters and to the intergenerational transfer of an operating business. He has advised private equity and venture capital groups throughout his career. In addition, he advises donors, artists and museums with respect to the donations of cultural property.

 

Richard has written extensively on various income tax matters and has spoken frequently at numerous tax-related conferences and seminars, including those of the Canadian Tax Foundation and those sponsored by professional conference organizations. He has previously lectured on behalf of the Canadian Institute of chartered Accountants as well as the graduate Diploma in Taxation program at McGill University. Richard has lectured at the Canadian Bar Association Tax Law for Lawyers Program since its inception. He is a contributing editor to International Tax, published by CCH. He is the author of a chapter in “Art Law: Cases and Controversies” on the Canadian income tax aspects pertaining to cultural property.
