Ron Schwass

Ron is a Partner and head of the firm’s Asset Management and Investment Funds practice. He practises in the areas of securities, corporate finance and mergers and acquisitions, with a primary focus on the asset management and venture capital industries. Ron provides integrated securities, tax and practical advice to help clients achieve their commercial objectives while enhancing investment products for Canadians.

Ron advises on all aspects of fund formation, including traditional and alternative asset strategies. He has extensive experience with their establishment and financing, registering key service providers under applicable legislation, and assisting with the acquisition and integration of operations of acquired organizations. He acts for issuers and dealers in connection with offerings by companies in the asset management and fintech industries, as well as in respect of innovative investment products offered to retail, high-net-worth and institutional investors in Canada. Ron also advises a broad range of domestic and international sponsors of investment products on Canadian securities registration matters.

Before entering private practice, Ron was a solicitor in the Corporate Finance Branch of the Ontario Securities Commission (1987–1990), with particular responsibility for mutual fund regulation.

Ron has authored numerous articles relating to securities regulation and has been a frequent participant at industry conferences. He has been recognized in a number of legal directories, including The Best Lawyers in Canada for his work in Mutual Funds Law and Private Funds Law and the Canadian Legal Lexpert® Directory in the area of Investment Funds & Asset Management. From 2017 to 2019, he was a member of the Securities Advisory Committee to the Ontario Securities Commission.
