Alex Karlsen
Overview
Alex is a lawyer practising primarily in the areas of corporate finance and securities, mergers and acquisitions, and corporate and commercial law. He works with clients across a range of industries, with a particular emphasis on the mining, energy and natural resources, and entertainment, media and sports sectors.
Recent mandates include:
- Part of the team representing NG Energy International Corp.’s in connection with its series of strategic transactions relating to its operating working interest in the Sinú-9 Block in Colombia, for total consideration payable to NG Energy of US$150 million.
- Part of the team representing Canada Soccer in connection with their renewed partnership with Canadian Soccer Media and Entertainment.
- Providing legal support to Canada Basketball, the recognized National Sport Organization for basketball in Canada.
Alex previously served as a supervising lawyer with the Osgoode Venture Capital Clinic, which provided legal services to early-stage entrepreneurial ventures on financing and equity structuring matters.
Alex earned a Juris Doctor from the Faculty of Law at Queen’s University. He holds a Master of Business Administration degree from the Smith School of Business at Queen’s University, where he graduated with a specialization in Entrepreneurship and Innovation. Alex completed his undergraduate studies at Toronto Metropolitan University, where he earned a Bachelor of Commerce degree with a major in Business and Law and graduated with distinction. He first joined the firm as a summer student in 2020 and articled with the firm in 2021–2022.
Outside of law, Alex’s interests include supporting his favourite sports teams, travelling, and keeping up to date with the latest movies and tv shows.
