Alex Karlsen

Alex is a lawyer practising primarily in the areas of corporate finance and securities, mergers and acquisitions, and corporate and commercial law. He works with clients across a range of industries, with a particular emphasis on the mining, energy and natural resources, and entertainment, media and sports sectors.

Recent mandates include:

• Part of the team representing NG Energy International Corp.’s in connection with its series of strategic transactions relating to its operating working interest in the Sinú-9 Block in Colombia, for total consideration payable to NG Energy of US$150 million.
• Part of the team representing Canada Soccer in connection with their renewed partnership with Canadian Soccer Media and Entertainment.
• Providing legal support to Canada Basketball, the National Sporting Organization for Basketball in Canada.

Alex previously served as a supervising lawyer with the Osgoode Venture Capital Clinic, which provided legal services to early-stage entrepreneurial ventures on financing and equity structuring matters.

Alex earned a Juris Doctor from the Faculty of Law at Queen’s University. He holds a Master of Business Administration degree from the Smith School of Business at Queen’s University, where he graduated with a specialization in Entrepreneurship and Innovation. Alex completed his undergraduate studies at Toronto Metropolitan University where he graduated with distinction and received a Bachelor of Commerce degree with a major in Business and Law. He first joined the firm as a summer student in 2020 and articled with the firm in 2021-2022.

Outside of law, Alex’s interests include supporting his favourite sports teams, travelling, and keeping up to date with the latest movies and tv shows.
