Overview

As a partner at the firm, Michael practises primarily in the areas of securities, corporate finance, M&A and commercial law. He acts for both private and public clients across a diverse range of industries in connection with a variety of matters, including financings, go-public transactions, M&A, securities law compliance, corporate governance and commercial arrangements, in each case both domestic and cross-border. Michael is recognized in The Canadian Legal Lexpert® Directory for Corporate Finance & Securities.

 

Michael is a member of the firm’s Management Committee.

 

Mandates that Michael has been involved with include acting for:

 

  • Brazil Potash Corp. in its US$30 million cross-border IPO, US$28 million PIPE, US$125 million at-the-market equity offering program and US$63.3 million public offering
  • Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment in connection with Rogers Communications Inc.’s $4.7 billion acquisition of BCE Inc.’s interest in MLSE
  • QMX Gold Corporation in its $132 million acquisition by Eldorado Gold Corporation
  • Real Matters Inc. in its $1.13 Billion IPO
  • The Special Committee of Starlight Multi-Family (No. 5) Core Fund in its $1.4 billion acquisition by Tricon Capital Group
  • SunOpta in its US$330 million debt facility and related US$444 million acquisition

 

Michael is actively involved in community and philanthropic initiatives. He serves as a Campaign Cabinet member for Sunnybrook Foundation’s landmark $1 billion “You’re The Reason” campaign, where he acts as an ambassador alongside leading business and community figures to help mobilize support for transformative investments in patient care, research and critical care infrastructure. He is also Co-Chair of the Legal Industry Challenge for Sunnybrook’s RBC Race for the Kids, helping lead a major annual fundraising effort in support of youth mental health through the Family Navigation Project.

 

He is past Co-Chair of the BBBST Young Leaders committee, a fundraising arm of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Toronto. In his non-work hours, Mike is usually taking advantage of Toronto’s restaurant scene, watching old movies or cheering on his beloved Green Bay Packers.
