Nick Gray
Overview
Nick (he, him) is a Partner at the firm and practises primarily in the areas of mergers and acquisitions, asset management, securities, corporate and commercial and corporate finance. He advises clients on a broad range of corporate and securities matters, including mergers and acquisitions involving public and private issuers, private and public company financings, and the establishment and operation of investment funds and pools of capital.
Mandates that Nick has been involved with include acting for:
- Goodkind Software Corporation in its acquisition by Niche.
- Linear Transfer Automation Inc., Linear Automation USA Inc. and Presstrader Limited in their acquisition by Nidec Corporation.
- Bond Bakery Brands Limited in connection with its strategic investments in Holy Napoli Pizza Inc. and Coco Bakery Inc.
- iLobby in connection with its US$100 million strategic investment from Insight Partners.
- CaseWare International Inc. in connection with its strategic investment from Hg Capital.
- Conagra Brands, Inc. in connection with the $43 million sale of its Canadian Del Monte® processed fruit and vegetable business to Bonduelle Group.
- Shepherd Gourmet Dairy (Ontario) Inc. in connection with the $100 million sale of its business assets and operations to Saputo Inc.
- The shareholders of Mierins Automotive Group in connection with the sale of Mierins Automotive Group to Alpha Auto Group, comprising the en bloc sale of 10 dealership locations
Nick is actively engaged in community and philanthropic initiatives. He serves as a member of the Campaign Cabinet for Sunnybrook Foundation’s landmark $1 billion “You’re The Reason” campaign, where he works alongside business and community leaders to help advance support for critical investments in patient care, research and hospital infrastructure. He also serves as Co-Chair of the Legal Industry Challenge for Sunnybrook’s RBC Race for the Kids, helping drive a major annual fundraising effort in support of youth mental health through the Family Navigation Project.
Nick is very active within the firm, serving as co-chair of the firm’s Technology and Innovation Committee and as a member of the Student Committee and the mergers and acquisitions Practice Group. He also co-leads the firm’s client and business development training program for associates, Wildlaw Academy.
Nick joined the firm as a summer student in 2009 and completed his articles with the firm in 2011. He obtained both his LL.B. and B.Comm. (Finance) from the University of Ottawa. While at law school, Nick was the recipient of the Tax Executives Institute Prize for highest standing in International Taxation and the Osler Hoskin & Harcourt LLP Prize for highest standing in Advanced Taxation.
Nick pursued his interest in capital markets and investment management, having earned the Canadian Investment Manager (CIM) designation from the Canadian Securities Institute.
